Why low fermentation food checker matters

SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) diets focus on reducing fermentable foods that feed bacteria in the small intestine. Low-fermentation foods help manage symptoms like bloating, gas, and abdominal discomfort.

  • Low-fermentation eating reduces food for overgrown bacteria
  • Meal spacing (4-5 hours) allows the MMC to clear the gut
  • Avoid grazing - structured meals are better

Serving size, prep, and portion notes for hemp milk

Hemp milk is one of the cleanest plant milks in this database. It grades A on lactose and dairy protein, A on histamine content and histamine liberation, A on nickel, oxalate, salicylates, sulfites and glutamates, and low FODMAP with A across fructans, GOS, excess fructose and polyols. It is blended from hulled hemp seed, which clears the two allergen groups that rule out almond and soy milk for most people, and hemp is one of the few plant proteins carrying all nine essential amino acids, so it is not the empty calories that rice and unfortified flax milk are. And no, it is not psychoactive: the drink is pressed from seed, not flower, and food hemp is grown and regulated for negligible THC.

Watch for

The carton is the variable, not the hemp. Sweetened, vanilla and barista versions add cane sugar, gums and sometimes inulin, and none of that is covered by the clean grades on plain hemp milk / Protein is real but modest at roughly two to three grams a cup, which beats almond and rice milk without matching dairy or soy. Read it as a better-than-usual plant milk, not a protein drink / Graded B rather than A on the anti-inflammatory scale, which simply reflects that this is a strained, processed drink. The whole seed keeps more of the fibre and minerals / Homemade hemp milk that is blended and not strained carries more of the whole seed with it, including its mineral load. Hemp seed itself is graded higher on nickel than the strained milk, which is worth knowing if you are on a low-nickel trial
