Serving size, prep, and portion notes for almond milk

Almond milk is one of the easiest dairy-free milks on the trigger front: low in histamine, no lactose or dairy protein, and low FODMAP in a normal glass because it is mostly water. It is not the same as eating almonds. The whole nut is high in oxalate, but commercial almond milk is only about 2 to 5% almonds, so its oxalate load is far lower and dilute. The main thing to check is what is added to the carton, not the almond itself.

Watch for

Low FODMAP at a normal 250 ml (1 cup) serve because it is mostly water; the almond FODMAPs are dilute, though multiple cups add up / Far lower in oxalate than whole almonds since it is only a few percent almond, though homemade or high-almond blends carry more / Commercial cartons often add gums, oils, sugar or flavours, and for some people it is the additives, not the almond, that cause trouble
