Why lectin food checker matters
Lectins are proteins found in many plant foods, especially legumes and grains. Some people follow low-lectin diets believing they reduce inflammation and digestive issues, though properly cooked foods have reduced lectin content.
- Proper cooking destroys most lectins - never eat raw beans
- Pressure cooking is highly effective at reducing lectins
- Peeling and deseeding reduces lectin content
- Fermentation can reduce lectins in some foods
- Sprouting may increase or decrease lectins depending on the food

What to know about farina
Farina is milled wheat, ground fine from the endosperm and sold as the smooth hot breakfast porridge best known under the Cream of Wheat name. Being wheat, it carries gluten at E and fructans at E, with overall FODMAPs at E and a SIBO grade of E to match, since finely milled refined starch is absorbed and fermented fast. It is graded E for the anti-inflammatory scale, which is what a refined fast-releasing grain earns. What is genuinely useful, and rarely said, is how clean the rest of its panel is: histamine A, histamine liberator A, salicylates A, oxalates A, sulfites A and glutamates A. Most commercial farina is also enriched with iron and B vitamins that milling stripped out, which is why it turns up in feeding advice for people who need calories that ask nothing of the palate. If wheat is not your trigger, farina is one of the blandest hot cereals you can eat.
Watch for
- Gluten E.Farina is wheat under a different name, and the Cream of Wheat branding hides that from label scanners more often than plain flour does
- Fructans E and overall FODMAPs E, the highest tier, because wheat fructans survive milling untouched
- SIBO grade of E.A fine milled refined starch cooked into porridge is about as fast-fermenting as breakfast gets
- Clean on the chemical triggers: histamine A, salicylate A, oxalate A, sulfite A and glutamate A, so if farina bothers you the wheat is the reason, not a food chemical
- It is usually cooked in milk rather than water, which adds lactose and dairy protein that the dry cereal itself does not have (both graded A dry)
