Oats are naturally gluten free, yet they carry two triggers people miss. First, cross-contact: most oats are grown and milled alongside wheat, so unless the box says gluten free they usually pick up gluten, and a minority of people also react to avenin, oat's own protein. Second, oats are high in nickel, which matters if you have systemic nickel allergy.
