Sensitivity notes

Why aip diet checker matters

The Paleo Autoimmune Protocol (AIP) is an elimination diet designed to reduce inflammation and heal the gut in people with autoimmune conditions. It removes grains, legumes, dairy, eggs, nuts, seeds, and nightshades during the elimination phase.

  • Elimination phase removes all potentially inflammatory foods
  • Focus on nutrient-dense foods: organ meats, bone broth, vegetables
  • Reintroduce foods one at a time after 30-90 days
  • Sleep, stress management, and movement are part of the protocol
  • Work with a practitioner experienced in autoimmune protocols

What to know about pear

Pears are one of the classic high-FODMAP fruits: they carry both excess fructose and sorbitol, a sugar alcohol, which is why "are pears high FODMAP" and "do pears cause bloating or gas" are such common questions. On the trigger data they are clean for histamine, gluten and lactose and only borderline for salicylates, so if a pear upsets your gut the FODMAP load is almost always the reason.

Watch for

  • High in excess fructose, the type of FODMAP that draws water into the bowel and commonly triggers bloating, cramping and diarrhoea in sensitive guts
  • High in sorbitol, a polyol, so pears deliver a double FODMAP hit that a small serving rarely fixes
  • Ripeness matters: the softer and riper the pear, the more free fructose it releases
  • Only borderline for salicylates, so pears are a mild rather than a strong salicylate food
