Sensitivity notes

Why fodmaps food checker matters

FODMAPs are fermentable carbohydrates that can cause digestive distress in sensitive individuals. They include fructose, lactose, fructans, galactans, and polyols. These sugars are poorly absorbed in the small intestine and ferment in the colon, potentially causing bloating, gas, and discomfort.

  • Start with a 2-6 week elimination phase, removing all high-FODMAP foods
  • Keep a detailed food and symptom diary to track your reactions
  • Reintroduce one FODMAP group at a time to identify your specific triggers

Serving size, prep, and portion notes for salt

Salt is not a food-chemistry trigger at all. Sodium chloride carries no histamine, salicylate, FODMAP, oxalate or gluten, so it is safe across every sensitivity this journal tracks. Its only real dimension is sodium: for blood pressure the DASH pattern asks you to keep total sodium down. One common mix-up worth clearing up is MSG, monosodium glutamate, which is a glutamate source and a separate trigger from plain salt.

Watch for

Sodium is the only genuine concern: a high-salt diet raises blood pressure, which is why the DASH approach caps daily sodium / MSG (monosodium glutamate) is a glutamate, not the same as table salt, so a glutamate sensitivity is not a reason to avoid ordinary salt / Brightening food with fresh herbs like chive, thyme or dill lets you use less salt without losing flavour
