Sensitivity notes
Why fructose food checker matters
Excess fructose refers to foods where fructose exceeds glucose content. This imbalance can cause malabsorption issues, leading to bloating, gas, and digestive discomfort in sensitive individuals.
- Pair fructose-containing foods with glucose for better absorption
- Choose fruits with balanced fructose:glucose ratios
- Avoid high-fructose corn syrup and agave
- Honey is very high in excess fructose
- Portion size significantly affects tolerance

What to know about hemp protein
Hemp protein is the least processed powder in the aisle, and that cuts both ways. It is milled from the seed cake left after pressing hemp oil, so unlike a true isolate it keeps the seed’s fibre and minerals. For histamine-sensitive users that whole-food character is good news: hemp is one of the cleanest histamine grades a protein source can have, with no liberator effect, and it is also free of gluten, dairy, soy and egg. The cost is carbohydrate. A full scoop carries 6 to 11 g of fibre, which drives the moderate FODMAP (C) and fermentation (C) grades, and concentrating the de-oiled seed pushes nickel high (D). Salicylates, oxalate and free glutamate all sit in the mild-to-moderate band.
Watch for
- The fibre is the trigger story.A 30 g scoop is roughly double the hemp seed serve that tested low FODMAP, so a full shake can ferment in a sensitive gut. Starting at half a scoop is the practical fix.
- Moderate fermentation grade (C) for the same reason: on a SIBO or low fermentation protocol this is the least suitable of the major plant powders.
- High nickel (D).Seeds are a high nickel food group and pressing out the oil concentrates the minerals further.
- Mild salicylate (B) and moderate oxalate (C), both a step above the whole seed because of concentration.
- One of the best protein powders for histamine intolerance: hemp seed carries SIGHI’s cleanest rating and no liberator flag, a claim neither whey nor soy can make.
