What to know about rose wine
Rose wine sits between red and white, and so does its trigger profile. It ferments with some contact on red grape skins, which builds up histamine, and it is preserved with sulfites, so it rates high on both. That amine-plus-sulfite combination is a classic reason a glass of rose brings on a flushed face, a stuffy nose or a headache faster than the alcohol alone would explain. It also carries some tyramine, another wine amine.

- High in histamine (D): fermentation and skin contact raise histamine, a leading cause of wine flush, blocked nose and headaches
- High in sulfites (D): added as a preservative and a separate trigger for sulfite-sensitive people, sometimes felt as wheeze or headache
