What to know about half-and-half
Half-and-half is a blend of milk and cream, so it carries the dairy triggers of both: it is high in dairy protein (casein and whey) and high in lactose. Because it usually goes into coffee a splash at a time, people rarely count it, but a few coffees across a day add up to enough lactose to cause bloating, gas or loose stools, and the casein can drive congestion or reflux if you react to milk protein.
