Is banana low FODMAP or not?
Both answers are circulating because both are right, depending on the banana. Unripe and firm, the carbohydrate is largely resistant starch, which is not a FODMAP, and the fruit sits at the mild end. As it ripens, enzymes break that starch down into free sugars and short-chain fructans, and the same fruit grades moderate with a smaller safe portion. If you tested banana during an elimination phase and it passed, check what ripeness you tested.
Why is banana on migraine and amine lists if it is low in histamine?
Because two different chemicals get filed under the same heading. Banana grades clean for histamine content, so it is not a high-histamine food. What it does carry is moderate tyramine, the amine that matters for MAOI interactions and for some migraine patterns, plus moderate histamine-releasing activity.
