About Lactose-free milk
Lactose-free milk is ordinary cow's milk with the enzyme lactase added, which splits the lactose into simple sugars your gut can absorb without its own lactase.
That is why it grades clean on lactose and solves the bloating and cramps of lactose intolerance. What it does not change is the rest of the milk: the proteins casein and whey are still fully present, graded high, so lactose-free milk is not safe for a cow milk allergy. It is the classic mix-up, no lactose but still very much dairy.

Does lactose-free milk still have dairy in it?
Yes. Lactose-free milk is real cow's milk; only the lactose has been broken down with added lactase. All the milk protein, fat and other components remain, so it is still a dairy product, not a dairy-free one.
Can I drink lactose-free milk if I have a milk allergy?
No. A milk allergy is an immune reaction to the proteins casein and whey, and those are fully present in lactose-free milk, which is why it grades high for dairy protein. Removing the lactose does nothing to the protein. For a milk allergy you need a plant milk such as almond, oat or rice.
Why does lactose-free milk still upset my stomach?
If you react to lactose-free milk, the cause is usually the milk protein rather than the sugar, since the lactose is already split. A casein or whey sensitivity, or a non-lactose dairy intolerance, can produce symptoms that a lactase enzyme cannot fix.
