Overview
About Garlic aioli
Garlic aioli is mayonnaise loaded with raw garlic, and that garlic makes it very high in fructans, a FODMAP that commonly causes bloating and gas.
Unlike plain mayonnaise, which is low FODMAP, aioli carries a real garlic load, so a dollop can trigger IBS symptoms. It is also egg and oil based, so it is not egg free and not vegan.

How Garlic aioli scores
Watch for
What trips people up
- Very high in fructans from the raw garlic, a FODMAP that drives bloating, gas and cramping
- Poor for SIBO because that raw garlic ferments quickly in the gut
- Egg based, so it is off limits if egg is one of your triggers and it is not vegan

FAQ
Common questions about Garlic aioli
Is garlic aioli low FODMAP like plain mayo?
No. Plain mayonnaise is low FODMAP, but aioli is mayo blended with raw garlic, and garlic is one of the highest fructan foods there is. That garlic makes aioli a common cause of bloating and gas, so if you tolerate mayo but react to aioli, the garlic is the reason.
What can I use instead of garlic aioli?
Plain mayonnaise gives you the same creamy base without the garlic fructans, and a garlic-infused oil stirred into it can add garlic flavor without the FODMAP load, since fructans do not dissolve into oil. Vegan mayonnaise or a drizzle of olive oil work too if you want to skip the egg as well.
