Overview

About AIP

Paleo AIP compatibility reflects how closely foods match Autoimmune Protocol guidelines, which cut grains, dairy, eggs, nuts, and nightshades during elimination.

The Paleo Autoimmune Protocol (AIP) is an elimination diet designed to reduce inflammation and heal the gut in people with autoimmune conditions. It removes grains, legumes, dairy, eggs, nuts, seeds, and nightshades during the elimination phase.

Grading

How we grade AIP

Every ingredient in the database carries one grade for AIP, and this page, the checker and the app all read that same grade. It describes the ingredient as it is usually eaten. Portion size and preparation move it.

AIP is kept as a rule. In the app, an ingredient you would have to check the label on still counts against the day.

Practical

Following AIP

  • Eliminate grains, dairy, eggs, nuts, and nightshades during the elimination phase.
  • Reintroduce foods one at a time after 30-90 days
  • Elimination phase removes all potentially inflammatory foods
  • Focus on nutrient-dense foods: organ meats, bone broth, vegetables
  • Sleep, stress management, and movement are part of the protocol
  • Work with a practitioner experienced in autoimmune protocols

Method

Test it with a diary

Most people find their own triggers by logging meals and symptoms for a few weeks and reading the result back. Three steps.

  1. 1Log every meal for a few weeks. Type it, say it out loud, or scan a barcode, and it lands as a list of ingredients.
  2. 2Rate how you feel through the day on whatever you are tracking, whether that is bloating, headaches, skin or sleep.
  3. 3Read the pattern back. Every ingredient you logged is scored against the days you felt worse, and the result ranks AIP against everything else you eat.
